The third symposium on intellectual property laws, which began here Tuesday night, stressed the need for tighter government control on intellectual piracy. The symposium, organized by the Saudi Law Training Center in cooperation with the Jeddah Chamber for Commerce and Industry (JCCI), was inaugurated by Abdulrahman Bin Abdul Aziz Al-Hazza, Supervisor of the Local Media department at the Ministry of Culture and Information. Dr. Majid Qaroob, head of the Saudi Law Training Center, said that intellectual property in both its literary and industrial meanings are part science, culture, food, medicine and other aspects of daily life. He noted that the Saudi Law Training Center has entered into a number of agreements with several Arab and regional universities and institutions specialized in law and arbitration rights aiming to enhance its capabilities and expertise to serve the community. “We have an agreement with the University of Sorbonne which allows our center to exchange experts, students and trainees and allows us to organize specialized programs that are required by some sectors,” said Qaroob. Al-Hazza highlighted the efforts of the Ministry of Culture and Information in ensuring intellectual property rights. He stressed the importance of coordination between relevant government sectors and the private sector to ensure intellectual property rights. “This will surely attract a large number of investors to the Kingdom,” he said.
