Forty days have passed and the flood-damaged Kilo 6 graveyard at Al-Jame'ah 2 District, which has still not been repaired, has become a home for stray dogs and cats. The floodwaters caused the collapse of the graveyard's wall, swept away corpses and covered the area with broken trees and palm branches. Residents say the floods have left the cemetery completely open. Saad Al-Mutairi, who lives in the area, said he felt sorry about the state of the graveyard where a number of his relatives are buried, adding that many bodies were swept away in the floodwaters. “I've seen many animals, cats and dogs, roaming the graveyard at night. I reported to the mayoralty many times but no action has been taken,” he said. “Mayoralty workers started building a new wall around the graveyard. They put up some pillars and rebuilt small parts of it, and then they disappeared about a week ago,” he added. A source at Jeddah Mayoralty said a thorough report will be submitted about the damaged graveyards.
