The Humanitarian Women Teachers Campaign for equality with men teachers submitted official documents Thursday regarding what it describes as the difference in men and women teachers' salaries to Saleh Al-Humaid, Director of Financial and Administrative Affairs in the Ministry of Education. Mona Abdul Aziz, spokeswoman of the campaign, said campaign leaders telephoned the ministry to arrange for a visit by a delegation of women teachers to Norah Al-Fayez, Assistant Minister of Education for Girls' Affairs, in order to discuss their demand to be treated equally with men teachers in terms of salaries. Meanwhile, sources report that the Ministry of Education intends to form 83 consultative councils for men and women teachers in all regions of the Kingdom. The councils are expected to start work in the second semester. The sources said the ministry has made great strides in preparing the statutes and regulations according to which the consultative councils would be formed. The statutes and regulations will specify the tasks of the council members, the privileges they will receive upon joining the councils and the mechanism for male and female teachers to become members of the councils.
