Dr. Abdulaziz Khoja, Minister of Culture and Information, will patronize the third Symposium on Intellectual Property under the theme “Justice and compensation in intellectual property rights” at the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) on Tuesday. The two-day symposium will be held under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture and Information and the JCCI with the participation of both the public and private sectors for the purpose of attracting foreign investment to the Kingdom. “The symposium will discuss registration procedures and the protection of intellectual property rights in government agencies including the role of customs in the fight against the abuse of such rights,” said Dr. Majed Qaroob, head of the organizing committee. “The patronage of the Minister of Culture and Information reflects the importance his ministry places on respecting intellectual property rights in order to attract international investment,” he said. “Ensuring intellectual property rights will have a positive impact on attracting international investment, whereas denying such rights could lead to the Kingdom experiencing SR10 billion in direct losses and depriving the Saudi economy of more than $10 billion in investment in the industrial and service sectors,” he added. More than 20 papers will be presented during the symposium which will be attended by Sheikh Ahmad Daif, judge in the Office of Ombudsmen; Abdullah Al-Usaimi, supervisor of general management for authors' rights in the Ministry of Culture and Information; Dr. Abdullah Al-Fahal, deputy chief of Investigation and Prosecution Management in Makkah; and Khalil Al-Jehani, representing the Customs Office.
