A new law has been unveiled that will punish any member of the armed forces who uses drugs. Major Gen. Zael Suliman Al-Balwai, Commander of the Western Region, said that the new law defines the penalties for drug addicts and drug users. It has been circulated to all members of the armed forces. Al-Balwai was addressing a group of officers and non-commissioned officers from the Land Forces and Military Police shortly after launching the annual drug exhibition organized by the regional command in Jeddah Monday. He emphasized the importance of combating the abuse of drugs. He said it has a negative impact on society. “We should not allow any drug addict or user in the armed forces. The armed forces should be purged of such people.” He said the show is part of the activities of the Ministry of Defense and Aviation. Every year the regional command organizes an annual exhibition on the functions of each sector of the armed forces. Al-Balwai said all sectors of the community should work together to eliminate this menace from society. He stressed the importance of such shows in creating public awareness about the hazards of narcotics.
