Praise for Prince Naif I was happy reading the report “Naif warns against misinterpreting Qur'an and Sunnah” (Dec. 24). Alhamdulillah, may Allah increase leaders in the Ummah who are constantly concerned with the propagation of correct Islamic teachings, as revealed to us by Allah through our beloved Prophet, Muhammad (peace be upon him). May Allah continue to guide and protect Prince Naif for all his good deeds in the service of Islam and all leaders of Saudi Arabia for their untiring efforts in the service of Islam. – Bala, Online response Citizenship for expats This is with reference to the article “Expats weigh in on ‘Destination Canada'” (Dec. 20). I have lived in Saudi Arabia for 30 years. I consider Saudi Arabia my home. I feel I'm a foreigner when I go back to my native country. No one knows me in my own locality there. But as I near my retirement age, I fear a dark future because I will have no citizenship, pension, medical care, free travel or housing. However in European countries, this becomes one's entitlement within 10 years of living. It's time concerned authorities considered this burning issue seriously. Surely, it will also save billions of riyals that expats send back home. – A.N., Online response Women's rights in Islam This is with reference to Sabria Jawhar's article on domestic violence (Dec. 25). I always read her eye-opening articles with great respect and expect the dawn of revolutionary, intellectual leadership of our Muslim sisters. As we know, in our Muslim society, violence against women often evolves from illogical, arrogant and whimsical behavior of the man failing to implement Islamic teachings and Shariah laws. Thus women's rights are denied. In my long stay in Saudi Arabia, I have read and observed very closely about the many kinds of abuses women go through. My humble request to our Muslim sisters is to acquire and equip themselves with proper knowledge of Islam and Sharia so that you can learn your rights in the Shariah and protect yourselves from the abuse of those rights. Islam has given women rights that no other religion or “ism” (ideologies) ever has. Therefore, take Islam and Shariah as the tools to fight back. – Abdul Matin, Riyadh Truth about Biharis This is with reference to Shahid Tanwir's letter about the plight of Biharis living in Bangladesh after the country got independence from the rulers of Pakistan. During the war of Bangladesh's independence in 1971, these Biharis cooperated with Pakistani troops to participate in mass murder of Bengalis. Despite that the kind-hearted Bengalis have forgiven them and allowed them to live with them. On the other hand, look at the Pakistani government, which only promises every time to take the Biharis back, but so far has done nothing about it. Bangladesh has no role to play in this. Recently Bangladesh government announced that it would allow them to have the country's passport if they are willing to show their allegiance to Bangladesh.
