The issuance of permits for teachers will begin in three years, Prince Dr. Faisal Bin Abdullah Al-Meshari, Director of the National Center for Assessment in Higher Education (Qiyas), said Friday. An agreement to this effect was recently signed by Prince Faisal Bin Abdullah, Minister of Education and Dr. Khaled Bin Muhammad Al-Anqari, Minister of Higher Education and Chairman of Qiyas. The agreement stipulates that the center will implement a number of programs required for the King Abdullah project for the development of education (Tatweer), Prince Dr. Faisal said. These programs include developing standards for teachers' vocational tests and interviews, establishing a national examination system to measure students' academic achievement and evaluating the quality of the country's education systems. Prince Dr. Faisal said Qiyas will begin conducting tests and interviews for new male teachers next year. Tests for female teachers, however, require further study, he said.
