trip to a rural area of Khamis Mushayt that could have ended in disaster as six children who didn't know how to swim jumped one after the other into a lake to rescue their siblings had a happy ending when their mother took a more prudent course of action. The children from two families had been left to play beside the lake when an 11-year-old slipped and fell in, prompting his 18-year-old sister to jump in to save him. Being a non-swimmer, the teenager also found herself prone in the waters, leading the rest of the children – aged between 8 and eleven – to launch themselves into the lake one by one, each seeking to save the last. Fortunately the mother of one of the families arrived at the scene and, also not knowing how to swim, swiftly tied together a series of abaya cloaks left by the lakeside and formed a rope with which she hauled the children back to safety. All of the children are reportedly in good health, save the 11-year-old who started the chain of events and who remains in hospital after swallowing water.
