The police have arrested four members of a brazen gang of thieves who stormed into a residence here, tied up a woman and her children, and fled with SR400,000 in cash. The gang on Saturday night robbed the home of an Afghani man in the Al-Sahman District in Madina. They also beat the man's wife. Security reports stated that the four men are of Afghani and Pakistani nationality. One was wearing women's clothing during the crime. They had allegedly planned for the robbery to take place while the head of the household was not home. However, they did not get far because the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) in Madina, managed to arrest all of them within six hours of the robbery. The arrest of the gang was carried out by Maj. Gen. Awadh Al-Sarhani, Chief of the Madina Police and the field work was supervised by Col. Khaled Al-Bouq, Director of the CID and his assistant Lt. Col. Mish'al Nahis. Brig. Gen. Mohsin Al-Raddadi, Spokesman for the Madina Region Police, said the four criminals had first knocked on the door of the family's apartment. When the door was opened they stormed in and tied up the wife with rope, placed adhesive tape over her mouth and beat her. The children were also tied up. They took SR400,000 in cash; and also some jewelry. The woman, with the help of her children, managed to free herself and shout to her neighbors for help. The police was then called, which helped in their operation to catch the perpetrators. Sources said that one of the criminals lived in the same apartment building. He was the alleged planner of the robbery. He was arrested at his apartment, directly opposite to that of his victims. The head of the gang was chased and apprehended near a gas station. Sources said the men had hid the cash and jewelry in a car parked near the building. The woman, who was beaten up by the gang, was taken to a hospital to have her injuries treated.
