In 1978, Greenpeace launched the original Rainbow Warrior, a 40-meter (130 ft), former fishing trawler. First deployed to disrupt the hunt of the Icelandic whaling fleet, the Rainbow Warrior would quickly become a mainstay of Greenpeace campaigns. Japan's Fisheries Agency has labeled Greenpeace ships as “anti-whaling vessels” and “environmental terrorists”.
