The Red Crescent Authority in the Makkah region was able to deal with 199 calls for help in the wake of Jeddah's floods. Dr. Khalid Al-Habshi, Director of the General Administration for the Saudi Red Crescent Authority in the Makkah region, said the authority was able to deal effectively with the emergency calls. “We implemented the support system from our off-duty manpower when the disaster took place. We also summoned the Makkah ambulatory support teams, [which were] on secondment outside the Makkah Region, to help to contain the disaster.” Al-Habshi pointed out that the Red Crescent had received 210 reports and were able to respond to 199. He said the teams that responded to the emergencies fell under the Field Medical Services Program, which has two ambulatory teams. They are stationed next to the rescue teams that search for missing people, he added. He said 50 people were provided first-aid, 14 were taken to hospital and 63 divers were vaccinated. In addition, two teams were permanently stationed in the flood-hit districts. He said that the Red Crescent dealt with 519 other cases, apart from the emergency calls for assistance. These cases involved support to the agencies licensed to distribute aid. He said 50 volunteers had been allocated for this purpose.
