A prison inmate leaving court Tuesday after having his case heard was caught by police attempting to smuggle drugs back into the facility. The convicted felon was being led through the corridors of a Makkah courthouse when he stopped and bent down, purportedly to tie his shoelaces, but his guards observed him surreptitiously remove a small bag, found upon inspection to contain drugs. During interrogations, it transpired that the felon had coordinated with a drug dealer beforehand to leave the bag of drugs between banister columns on a courthouse stairway from where he would be able to pick up the package as he passed on his way through the court building. “The prisoner had been in court and was being led out via the stairs on his way back to prison,” said Makkah Police spokesman Abdul Mohsen Al-Maiman. “The experience of his guards, however, meant that his actions were spotted right away.”
