run sixth-wicket partnership between New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori and Brendon McCullum marshalled the Kiwis to 346 and put it in the driving seat of the third and final Test against Pakistan in Napier Saturday. New Zealand started the second day at 47 for none and its innings was given impetus by a patient 74 by an under-fire Tim McIntosh. While McIntosh stayed put, the Kiwis kept losing wickets at the other end. Danish Kaneria was the main man for Pakistan, picking up four top-order wickets. Opener Bradley Watling fell to Mohammad Asif. Kaneria then accounted for Martin Guptill (lbw), Ross Taylor (caught square leg) and Tim McIntosh and Daniel Flynn both caught behind. From 47 for 0, New Zealand slumped to five for 145. Pakistan threatened to run through the lower order when Daniel Vettori and Brendon McCullum arrived at the wicket. Aided by poor field placing and some very tired bowling, the two started what could possibly be a match-winning partnership. Vettori was his usual self, dabbing and bunting most of the times and scoring behind square as he typically enjoys. The few time he did put his foot out to play a drive he made sure the ball went to the boundary. Mohammed Aamer went off the field with a dodgy stomach and did not come out until stumps. New Zealand ended the day at 346/6. Scores: Tim McIntosh 74, Vettori 100 B. McCullum 89; Kaneria 4
