Traffic at the King Fahd Causeway has been eased with new eight lanes for processing passports and customs on both Saudi and Bahraini sides. The 18 lanes have now made passport check-in much faster at the heavily-crowded causeway, especially during the holidays, said Badr Bin Abdullah Al-Etaishan, chairman of the King Fahd Causeway Organization. The new lanes were part of an overall development of the causeway, he said. The Eid holiday boosted traffic on the causeway with an unprecedented number of over one million holidaymakers between Nov. 18 and Dec.4. The record number of vehicles crossing the causeway was registered at 31,015 with 91,691 passengers on Nov. 30, he said. The longest wait time for a vehicle to cross the border during the holiday was 1:15 hr.
