In 1982, King Fahd appointed him as Second Deputy Prime Minister. On Aug. 1, 2005, he became the Crown Prince as a result of King Fahd's death. His son, Prince Bandar Bin Sultan, is the former Saudi Arabian ambassador to the US, while another son, Prince Khalid Bin Sultan, was a key Saudi general in the 1991 Gulf War.
