Farmers and fisherfolks can now text their questions related to their farms, planting problems, food production inquiries or any other issues related to farming and food production. The Department of Agriculture (DA) has launched a novel information service project in tandem with a major telecommunications company that will enable farmers and fishermen to easily access agriculture-related information and extension services via telephone, the Internet or short messaging service (SMS). Information services available to farmers and fisherfolk include technical advisory on agriculture and fisheries and agricultural marketing assistance to make farming or fishing more profitable for them. Agriculture Secretary Arthur Yap said the Farmers' Contact Center (FCC) is part of the government's flagship program dubbed as FIELDS.
