The Mayor of the Eastern Province has reacted to warnings from the regional Civil Defense over the safety of Dammam's underpasses and bridges, describing them as “baseless and designed to pit the public against the Mayor's Office.” Mayor Dhaifallah Al-Otaibi also accused Eastern Province Civil Defense chief Hamid Al-Ju'eid of “attempting to shirk responsibilities should anything occur” in the latter's warnings over the safety of the road drainage network in Dammam. “The underpass at King Fahd Road and Prince Muhammad Bin Fahd Road is still closed for maintenance work, but it should be finished soon,” Al-Otaibi said. “The underpass at King Fahd Road and Othman Bin Afan Road opened two months ago and its drainage system works perfectly well, as shown by the test presented by this week's rainfall. The other underpass on King Fahd Road and Prince Naif Road is also operating with a good drainage system.”
