Fatima refused to go to a primary school near her camp because she did not have her uniform which was left behind at their house when her family was evacuated. She is one of a number of pupils living in tent camps on the border who missed the first day of school Saturday because they did not have the proper clothes. Other students apparently attended the first school day after the Eid Al-Adha holidays in their pajamas. “I felt sad seeing her that way,” her father said. “Since we settled at the camp she has been asking me when she could go back to school, and how she missed it. Yesterday she said she wasn't going to school until she gets a uniform and other school requirements.” The situation for Sara Hazzazi was no different. She was standing looking sad outside her family's tent in the morning watching people go by because her uniform did not fit. “I got the uniform from the tailor late the day before yesterday and laid it beside her while she was asleep,” Sara's father said. “We were woken up by her cries because it did not fit.” She also refused to go to school. Pupil Muhammad Ali also skipped the first school day because he did not have a proper thobe.
