The Musée du Louvre is the largest national museum of France, the most visited museum in the world - averaging 15,000 visitors per day, 65 percent of whom are tourists - and a historic monument. It is a central landmark of Paris. Nearly 35,000 objects from prehistory to the 19th century are exhibited over an area of 60,600 square meters (652,300 square feet) though its most famous possession is perhaps Leonardo Da Vinci's iconic painting Mona Lisa.
