Normal traffic flow has been restored to 95 percent of the major roads and streets damaged during last week's floods, according to Col. Muhammad Bin Hasan Al-Qahtani, the Director of Jeddah's Traffic Department. Al-Qahtani said damaged vehicles have been removed, roads repaired and traffic signals replaced. This was done in coordination and collaboration with the Jeddah Mayoralty and the Roads Administration. More traffic officers have been called for duty to ensure that traffic runs smoothly in preparation for Saturday when government officials return to work and schools restart. Al-Qahtani said there was extensive damage to the streets and roads in the area east of the Al-Haramain Highway. This meant that traffic had to be diverted to alternate roads. This allowed maintenance teams to carry out their work to repair potholes and remove excess water. Al-Qahtani called on parents and guardians to leave early for school with their children to avoid traffic jams. He said they should avoid all roads which still have pools of water.
