As the Haj drew to a close on the fourth day of Eid, many pilgrims were seen happily snapping away at Mina in a bid to record their Haj forever. With dark fast approaching, all that could be seen was the flashlights of cameras and camera phones. It marked a bittersweet end to their holy journey. Many were sad to leave Makkah, but there were lots of smiles and laughter too. The pictures could only record their Haj in a limited way. How could the pilgrims make a true record, with a still or moving image, of the Haj with its hardship, its exultation and the sweetness of worship? Pilgrims can only truly record the entire journey in their memories. But for now, the pictures will have to do. The snaps will be saved on memory sticks, hard drives and hard copies made for gilt-edged frames. It is meant to be a reminder for them, but also for generations to come.
