The Muslim World League (MWL) has called on all Muslims to use the Day of Arafat to reflect on the state of the Ummah and to help those who are oppressed and needy. Dr. Abdullah Bin Abdul Mohsin Al-Turki, Secretary General of the MWL, said that only with a return to the principles of Islam can the Ummah achieve victory over its enemies and make progress in the world. “We should be proud of our religion, acquaint people with it and spread its merits. We must let the whole world know that our Muslim Ummah is great and has had its glories in history when it was implementing the Shariah. The Ummah today must return to implementing the teachings of the Holy Qur'an and the Prophet's Sunnah in all aspects of life,” he said. He said the Ummah is now suffering from backwardness. “The ranks are divided, extremist trends have appeared and Muslims have lost their self-respect. This has led to the enemies of Islam daring to harm some Muslims.” “The defeats will continue if the Ummah does not learn lessons from the past and obey Allah so that Muslims can regain their strength and unity.” Al-Turki cited the oppression of the Palestinians and the plight of the Iraqi people. He said this is where Muslims can help out the most. “The Israeli occupation is tightening the siege on the patient Palestinian people. It is also creating divisions among their ranks.” “The ongoing siege, starvation and aggression and violation of human rights in Gaza calls upon Muslims to unify their ranks, come to the help of their brethren in Palestine and assist and support them.” Al-Turki called for reconciliation, harmony and the rebuilding of Iraq. He called upon the Muslim Ummah to support the Iraqi people's attempts at unity.
