Father cries foul in daughter's suicide
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 06 - 05 - 2008

The father of a girl who seemingly committed suicide said on Monday that he believes his daughter was murdered.
Ahmad Al-Amri, the father of Elham, did not accuse anyone of murdering his daughter, but dismissed the story of his daughter committing suicide by throwing herself off the stairs of her house's third floor in Al-Jama (University) district.
He demanded the authorities to investigate and find the real factors that led to her death.
Amri said medical reports had indicated that his 17-year-old daughter had fractures in her hands, right leg and spine, brain trauma, bleeding in the mouth, nose and ear, in addition to a suspected fracture in the skull.
He said his daughter had not suffered any psychological or nervous illnesses. She got married 45 days before she died and he never saw her since.
The father asserted that his daughter was happy living a quiet marital life, about which she had never complained.
He added that she had called her mother shortly before she died and told her that she wanted to visit.
She also called her uncle and joked with him on the phone. He said that with all this, it's hard to believe that she had committed suicide.
Amri also said that on the day Elham died, one of her sisters-in-law called his family and told them that Elham fell down the stairs and was taken to hospital in critical condition.
He said he passed out in shock when he heard the news. He then took his wife and little boy and went to his daughter's house, where he saw her blood in the middle of the living room.
He then went to King Abdul Aziz Hospital, where doctors were trying to resuscitate his daughter through pulmonary resuscitation.
Amri said he refuses to believe his daughter had thrown herself down the stairs, adding that she was a person of faith.
He added that he also does not believe the story because the stairs have an iron fence one meter tall.
However, Jeddah Police's preliminary investigations showed there was no criminal intent involved. Police spokesman Misfir Al-Juaid said fingerprints and samples were lifted from the crime scene and statements of all parties were recorded. The case is to be referred to the Investigation and Prosecution Commission Tuesday. – Okaz. __
