20% increase in livestock imports

The number of livestock imported from abroad has increased by 20 percent according to Jaber Al-Shehri, Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture for Animal Resources. He said that this was part of the Ministry of Agriculture's plan to import a large quantity of livestock so as to push prices down so that they are affordable to all.
In the past few months more than 1.6 million heads of livestock were imported through Jeddah Islamic Port with 551,653 imported during the period Nov. 18 to Nov. 24.
