The Bangladesh International School & College – Bangla Section, Jeddah, organized a free medical camp for students last week on its premises. Mohammed Rafiqul Islam Farooque, principal of the school, said the monthly medical checkup programs are organized by the School Governing Body (SGB) for all students under the slogan “Health Awareness and Health for Education”. Bangladeshi Consul General Golam Sarwar inaugurated the camp. Bangladeshi consul Shafiquzzaman Baschu and members of the SGB were the special guests on the occasion. Commending the effort, the consul general said the camp will help create awareness and similar initiatives should be taken by other educational institutions as well. Jahangir Alam, chairman of the SGB, said: “Schools are mainly concerned with the academic development of students and not their health. Many parents lack the basic awareness of major health issues. Through this event, we want to convey to our students that their health is wealth, and ultimately, a healthy student will show good academic results as well.” Dr. Enayet Ullah and Dr. Anisur Rahman, both of whom are SGB members, supervised the medical camp. “Regular medical checkups are very helpful for students and their guardians as well as the school authorities. Many parents are not even aware that their children may be suffering from some disease. For example, defective vision is a common problem among students. Through such programs, the students, their parents and the school authorities will become health
