Members of the Algerian community in the Eastern Province commemorated the 55th year of their country's War of Independence with a celebration that featured speeches and expression of reaffirmation of their unity to their motherland. The event, held in a popular hotel in Dammam, was attended and patronized by Prof. Lahbib Adami, Algerian Ambassador to the Kingdom. Accompanying the Ambassador during the occasion were four Embassy officials, namely, Lakhdar, Yahia, Chaouki, and Youssef. The celebration was organized by the Algerian Embassy in Riyadh. Some 450 members of the Algerian community in the region attended the event. In his speech, Adami reminded the community not to forget the sacrifices of their leaders and those who gave their life in the independence struggle of Algeria. In the Algerian War, also known as the Algerian War of Independence (Guerre d'Algerie), over one million Algerians died in the conflict. The Algerian revolution started in 1954 up to1962. In 1962, the Evian Accords resulted in the gaining of independence of Algeria. The Ambassador paid tribute to the leaders of Algeria who fought during the conflict. He praised the community for their unity and continued support to Algeria, urging them at the same time to be the ambassadors of their country in the Kingdom. “Everyone must reflect the good image of our country and always adhere to the laws of our host country, Saudi Arabia,” Adami told members of the community, many of whom were accompanied by their children to celebrate the Algerian revolution. Baldredine Boussaa, Algerian community leader in the EP and country manager of Varel International, expressed the community's gratitude for the visit of the Ambassador and for organizing the occasion. Other community leaders, like Hocine Boussahba, also thanked the Ambassador for his visit. There are about 4,000 Algerians residing in the region representing about 150 families. They are working mostly as professionals in universities, health institutions, contracting and construction industry, and in the petroleum sector. Most of them are employed in the oilfield sector.
