Hekma College's Model United Nations Club (MUN) convened last week to discuss the topic: “The situation of the Israeli settlements and the effect on Palestinian citizens”. Prior to the two-day session, students were given a workshop on the rules and procedures of a formal MUN debate. This session mimicked an actual General Assembly session of the United Nations, where all students were assigned countries and were to represent the foreign policy of their allotted country. A total of 27 countries were represented including, United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Israel, Palestine, Iran and Russia. All delegates had thoroughly researched the foreign policy of their countries and were quick to defend their nation's stand on the matter. At the end of the intense two-day session, the committee passed a resolution that was voted on by the majority. The MUN club at Dar Al-Hekma intends to hold further sessions on different topics, giving students the chance to gain experience in participating in international debates.
