The Higher Committee for the Protection of the Environment discussed on Monday setting up 15 air quality monitoring stations in the capital. Deputy Emir of Riyadh Province Prince Sattam Bin Abdul Aziz and members looked at 46 environmental programs to tackle pollution, waste disposal, water and other natural resources, open space areas and wildlife. Commission member Abdul Latif Aal Al-Sheikh said that the project for the environmental rejuvenation of Wadi Hanifa and a water recycling program were close to completion, while work was ongoing to fix controls on the sources of air pollution. “And the Ministry of Agriculture has banned the importation of 23 insecticides due to their high levels of poisonous content.” Aal Al-Sheikh said that environmental education programs had begun on a trial basis in secondary schools.
