Some 170 television cameras to monitor the movement of pilgrims have been installed in all Makkah districts, including the Central Zone and holy sites, to help Civil Defense tackle any emergency situation. The Operations Room of Civil Defense – the body responsible for fire and rescue services in the Kingdom – is in direct communication with stationary and mobile units on the ground to tackle emergencies and also has a mobile telephone caller-tracing system to enable rescue services to reach accident sites as quickly as possible. Also operational is a system to guide rescue services along the shortest or quickest route to a site and notification networks linked to over 300 government offices, service departments and pilgrim accommodation sites which alerts the Operations Room of alarms sounded at any of these locations.
