Real Madrid crashed out of the Copa del Rey after losing 4-1 on aggregate to third-tier club Alcorcon Tuesday. Madrid won 1-0 at home at Santiago Bernabeu Stadium after losing 4-0 in the first leg two weeks ago. Madrid, which hasn't won the competition since 1993, also lost in the second round last year to another third-division club – Real Irun. Rafael Van der Vaart earned the lone goal in the 81st minute after latching on to a loose ball. Earlier Tuesday, Madrid president Florentino Perez said a trophyless season would not be a “disaster” despite having spent more than $363 million on players this offseason. Watched by Argentina coach Diego Maradona, Madrid did little to give the 80,000 home fans hope. Alcorcon goalkeeper Juanma Barrero got down to stop Ruud van Nistelrooy's low shot and closed the angle on Raul Gonzalez moments later, but the early pressure soon subsided. The frustration started to show in the 34th when Raul Albiol was booked for tripping Fernando Bejar. Francisco Borja, a former Madrid youth player who scored twice in the first leg win, shot wide three minutes later as the visitors enjoyed a spell of possession while the hosts fizzled without star Cristiano Ronaldo, who continues to recover from an ankle injury. Karim Benzema and Xabi Alonso were also left off the team with Brazil playmaker Kaka in the lineup. Van der Vaart entered after the break and, two minutes later, curled a free kick inside the area that Pepe headed over. Though Madrid finally began to find its stride, nothing was going it's way as Van Nistelrooy redirected a Kaka shot toward the open goal but off the crossbar in the 52nd. Van der Vaart volleyed off the bar and Van Nistelrooy hit a clear chance wide soon after before Barrero stopped Kaka's low shot in the 57th. “You can't say in the first leg, or the second, that we didn't try,” Madrid director general Jorge Valdano said.
