day ‘Textiles Buyer-Seller Meeting' organized by the Synthetic & Rayon Textiles Export Promotion Council (SRTEPC) of India in cooperation with the Indian Consulate in Jeddah was jointly inaugurated by Indian Consul General Sayeed Ahmed Baba and Commercial Consul Rasheed Khan last week. V. K. Ladia, vice chairman of SRTEPC, said that India's exports of manmade fiber textiles to Saudi Arabia accounted at about $150 million last year, marking a growth of nearly 20 percent. “There is great scope for the two countries to enter into mutually benefitting joint ventures resulting in an increased bilateral trade,” he said. According to Ladia, the close trade ties between India and Saudi Arabia have further strengthened in the recent years. A visiting delegation of twenty leading Indian companies participated in the expo, which was held on Nov. 3-4 at Hotel Jeddah Trident. On show at the expo was a wide range of products that included suits, shirts, dress materials, embroidered fabrics, high fashion fabrics, home furnishings, scarves, abaya, stoles, shawls, dupattas, laces, motifs, mufflers, wool mesh fabrics besides yarns of manmade fibers and blends, etc. India is one of the major producers of manmade fibers in the world. Saudi Arabia is the sixth largest market for Indian manmade fiber textiles.
