Civil defense team saved two Yemeni nationals after falling into a 12-m deep oil tank while doing their cleaning job at a used oil refinery facility in southeaster Jeddah. Losing control while cleaning the top of the tank, one of the workers slipped and fell into the tank which had a few liters of black used oil. As the co-worker tried to rescue him, he fell into the oil tank. The two men cried out for help from the bottom of the tank, echoing into the ears of the owner of the facility who reported the accident to the civil defense. Chief of Jeddah Civil Defense, Maj. Gen. Mohammad Al-Ghamdi, said that a special team was dispatched to the location and succeeded in rescuing the two men, using ropes and other devices. The two men survived because the little quantity of oil inside absorbed the impact of their straight crash into the steel bottom of the tank, he said. Al-Ghamdi said that the thickness of the black oil and lack of oxygen at the bottom part of the tank could have killed the two men had not the Civil Defense team arrived at the location on time. – Okaz __
