The Council of Princess Noura Bint Abdul Rahman University has approved the creation of the first Society for Children in the Kingdom. A university statement cited by Al-Hayat newspaper Tuesday said that the society would focus principally on the psychological, social and cultural conditions of Saudi children, and work to educate families on the various ways of bringing up children to make them “productive members of society and contribute to the well-being of their country”. It is also hoped that the Saudi Society for Children will maintain contact and share knowledge with similar organizations abroad. The Princess Noura University Council is chaired by Khaled Al-Anqari, the Minister of Higher Education. Due to open in 2010, the Princess Noura Bint Abdulrahman University will be the worlds' largest women-only university with a campus that will cover eight million square meters and accommodate 40,000 students. The university will have a library, conference centers, 15 academic faculties, laboratories and a 700-bed hospital, as well as facilities for research into nanotechnology, bio-sciences and information technology.
