Lundqvist earns 150th win in shutout of Bruins
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 03 - 11 - 2009

Henrik Lundqvist stopped 29 shots for his 150th NHL victory and 21st career shutout, and Marian Gaborik returned from injury and scored for the fourth straight game as the New York Rangers beat the Boston Bruins 1-0 Sunday.
With most New York sports fans focused on a pair of NFL games involving local teams and the Yankees' World Series run, the Rangers returned home from a disappointing road trip in which they went 0-2 without Gaborik and beat the stingy Bruins.
Boston continued its season-long trend of alternating wins and losses, absorbing a tough-luck defeat one day after backup goalie Tuukka Rask shut out Edmonton at home.
Sharks 5, Hurricanes 1: Kent Huskins and Brad Staubitz scored 1:22 apart in the second period, Evgeni Nabokov made 25 saves and San Jose won its fifth straight.
Douglas Murray, Marc-Edouard Vlasic and Patrick Marleau also scored for the Pacific Division-leading Sharks (10-4-1).
San Jose got three goals from defensemen in their first win in Carolina since Oct. 24, 2000.
Brandon Sutter scored his second goal in two games for the Hurricanes (2-8-3), who haven't won in nine games and are off to the worst start in franchise history.
Blue Jackets 5, Capitals 4, OT: R.J. Umberger scored his second goal of the game on a power play 1:45 into overtime to lift Columbus.
Blue Jackets left wing Raffi Torres scored twice in the final 6 ½ minutes of regulation, including the tying goal with 23 seconds left to send the game into overtime.
Rick Nash had a goal and two assists for Columbus (6-5-1).
Washington played much of the game without Alex Ovechkin, who left early in the second period and did not return.
Brooks Laich had goals 2:08 apart in the third period, Quintin Laing had his first goal of the season and Nicklas Backstrom also scored for the Capitals (8-2-3).
Canucks 3, Avalanche 0: At Vancouver, Mason Raymond and Ryan Kesler each had a goal and an assist and Andrew Raycroft made 18 saves to lead the Vancouver Canucks over the Colorado Avalanche.
Tanner Glass rounded out the scoring midway through the third period as the Canucks won for the sixth time in their last seven home games.
Craig Anderson made 17 saves as the Western Conference-leading Avalanche lost consecutive games in regulation for the first time.
