The Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities (SCTA) has announced 40 new conditions for the classification of hotels and furnished flats in Makkah and Madina. The conditions, approved by SCTA Secretary-General Prince Sultan Bin Salman Bin Abdul Aziz, are applicable to two-, three-, four- and five-star hotels, and classify furnished apartments into three categories. The conditions relate to building specifications, location, facilities such as parking lots, halls and receptions, and the quality of bedrooms, bathrooms, and breakfast and room service. Five-star hotels in the two provinces are now required to provide multipurpose conference halls and a business center, and furnished apartments of 50 rooms or more are required to provide a 24
