A Taif court is looking into a case filed by an 80-year-old mother against her only son for allegedly beating her many times and threatening her life for refusing to sell her own properties. The case has already sent alarming signals about the increasing domestic violence in the Kingdom. The mother reported the son to Taif police, leading to his arrest. He was then referred to the General Investigation and Prosecution Authority which sent him to court for trial. The man's father died 40 years ago, leaving the mother with a sizable wealth and a spoiled son. “Hamad failed to finish his elementary school. He was employed but then he was fired for his gross indiscipline at work,” she said. “He sold most of our properties, including the family home without my approval,” she added. He gave his mother some money to buy a house but it was not enough, which made her borrow more money to pay for it. After he wasted all the wealth on his personal whims, he came to live with her with his eyes flashing greedy at the house. As he lived with her, he repeatedly beat her and eventually forced her out for two months during which she was a guest at her sister's, she said. When she returned home, she found the house without furniture; it was his last ditch to find money. But he kept harassing her until she left the house again, forcing her this time to rent a little apartment. With his eyes still fixated on her house, he threatened her of death if she wouldn't accept to sell it and give him the money. – Okaz __
