Shehri's first wife succeeded in her claim for a “khulu'” divorce in which the wife waives her right to keep the dowry, while her husband was being held at Guantanamo. Al-Shehri reportedly told psychologists and psychiatrists at the Munasaha rehabilitation center of the stress caused by his estrangement from his primary-school-age daughter and his now former-wife Asma, and asked for help in seeking reconciliation with them. Al-Shehri later married Wafa, the sister of Yousef Al-Shehri – a former fellow Guantanamo inmate – who was killed earlier this month in clashes with security forces in Jizan. Wafa is believed to be with her husband in Yemen with her three children, two by previous marriages.
