University of Alabama nose guard Terrence Cody blocked a field-goal attempt on the final play and No. 1-ranked Crimson Tide escaped with a 12-10 victory over the rival University of Tennesse Saturday. Cody broke through the line on the last play and practically ran into Daniel Lincoln's low kick from 44 yards. It was Cody's second blocked field goal of the fourth quarter. Leigh Tiffin booted four field goals – including a 50-yarder and a 49-yarder – to provide all Alabama's offense and the Tide survived Mark Ingram's first college fumble and some problems for the nation's top defense. No. 2 Florida 29, Mississippi State 19: In Starkville, Mississippi, Chris Rainey scored from 8 yards out after the Bulldogs stumbled on a fake punt as the Gators came away with a tough win. The Bulldogs stymied the Gators near the goal line all night, but Rainey's run and Dustin Doe's 23-yard interception return helped Florida extend the nation's longest winning streak to 17 games. No. 3 Texas 41, Missouri 7: In Columbia, Missouri, Colt McCoy completed his first 11 passes and produced touchdowns on Texas' first three drives. McCoy matched his season best with three touchdown passes, two of them to Jordan Shipley, while Texas' defense blocked a punt for a score in a nearly flawless first half that produced a 35-7 lead. No. 4 USC 42, Oregon State 36: In Los Angeles, Allen Bradford rushed for a career-high 147 yards and two touchdowns, and Southern California avenged its only loss of last season. Damian Williams returned a fourth-quarter punt 63 yards for a touchdown for the Trojans, whose loss to the Beavers last September prevented them from playing for the national title. No. 5 Cincinnati 41, Louisville 10: In Cincinnati, back-up quarterback Zach Collaros threw only two incompletions while passing for 253 yards and three touchdowns in the Bearcats' first game without marquee quarterback Tony Pike. The Bearcats are off to their best start since 1954 despite losing Pike, who had surgery on his non-throwing forearm.
