The 11th Arab Structural Engineering Conference opens here today hosted by the King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM). According to the official ASEC website, the three-day conference aims to provide a forum for academicians, researchers, practicing engineers and policy-makers, who have an interest in structural engineering, to meet and discuss the recent advances and developments in structures-related areas, and to share ideas on current and future challenges facing the Arab world in responding to the rapid growth of construction in the region. In addition to the regular sessions, the conference aims to have several plenary sessions addressed by well-known academicians, industrialists and public figures. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Khalid Salih Al-Sultan, Rector of KFUPM, expressed his appreciation for the continuous support extended by King Abdullah, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and the Crown Prince which contribute to enhancing the university's role in keeping pace with rapid technological advances and innovation.
