Alisa Kleybanova of Russia beat defending champion Jelena Jankovic of Serbia 6-4, 6-3 Friday to advance to the semifinals of the Kremlin Cup. The upset came a day after the second-seeded Jankovic took the last spot for next week's season-ending WTA Championships in Doha. Eighth-seeded Francesca Schiavone of Italy advanced with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Russia's Maria Kirilenko. Schiavone, the 2005 runner-up, will next play Alona Bondarenko of Ukraine, who ousted Bulgarian qualifier Tsvetana Pironkova 6-3, 6-3. In a later quarterfinal, Govortsova beat Russia's Vera Dushevina 6-3, 6-0. In the men's tournament, sixth-seeded Janko Tipsarevic of Serbia advanced to his first semifinal this season by beating Robby Ginepri of the United States, 6-3, 6-3. Tipsarevic next takes on Ukranian qualifier Illya Marchenko, who rallied to beat Russia's Evgeny Korolev 0-6, 6-2, 6-3. Another qualifier, Mikhail Kukushkin of Kazakhstan, also came back from a set down to upset fifth-seeded Pablo Cuevas of Uruguay 4-6, 6-1, 6-4. Kukushkin will next meet third-seeded Mikhail Youzhny of Russia, who advanced by beating Sergiy Stakhovsky of Ukraine 6-3, 6-3. Soderling-Baghdatis semis Top-seeded Robin Soderling edged Guillermo Garcia-Lopez 7-6 (4), 6-4 in the Stockholm Open quarterfinals Friday, remaining on course for a third home final in the Swedish capital. Soderling, a surprise French Open finalist, will play Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus in Saturday's semifinals. Baghdatis ousted French qualifier Arnaud Clement 6-4, 6-4. Olivier Rochus of Belgium will meet Thomaz Bellucci of Brazil in the other semi. Rochus beat Jarkko Nieminen of Finland 6-3, 2-6, 6-1, and Bellucci fired 18 aces in defeating Joachim Johansson of Sweden 7-6 (4), 6-3. Wickmayer in semis Surprise US Open semifinalist Yanina Wickmayer beat Kirsten Flipkens 7-6 (1), 4-6, 6-1 in an all-Belgian quarterfinal at the Luxembourg Open Friday. Wickmayer will play 70th-ranked Timea Bacsinszky of Switzerland, who beat Katarina Srebotnik of Slovenia 6-7 (3), 6-1, 6-4. Wickmayer became the highest seed in the tournament after Israel's Shahar Peer upset fourth-seeded Daniela Hantuchova of Slovakia 6-2, 7-6 (4). Kim Clijsters lost to Patty Schnyder of Switzerland Thursday. That match left Schnyder tired, and it showed against sixth-seeded Sabine Lisicki. The German had no trouble in ousting the 30-year-old veteran 6-4, 6-2, and will now face Peer in Saturday's semifinals. Second-seeded Clijsters struggled throughout with her service, landing only 58 percent of first serves. Schnyder lost to Clijsters in the latter's first tournament in more than two years, at Cincinnati in August. Wickmayer beat France's Alize Cornet 7-5, 7-6 (6). No. 4-seeded Daniela Hantuchova won a marathon second-round match against Czech Lucie Hradecka 7-5, 3-6, 6
