Newly appointed school teachers and instructors in higher education will have to sit an examination to obtain a teaching license, according to Muhammed Al-Sudairi of King Saud University in Riyadh. Al-Sudairi said this week that new teachers were scheduled to sit the examinations at the beginning of this academic year's second semester, while examinations will be phased in for staff already in employment. “Teachers will be examined in methodology, pedagogy, and student evaluation, and they will be required to attend 36 hours of training,” Al-Sudairi said. President of King Saud University Abdullah Al-Othman has also told teaching staff at the university to take the training course before the end of the current month to ensure payment of the university education allowance.
