Police are suspecting foul play in an apartment blaze on Quraish Street, which killed a man Friday morning. However, personnel of the Civil Defense rescued two families trapped in an adjoining apartment. An investigation is underway into the cause of the blaze. Misfir Al-Je'aid, spokesman for Jeddah Police, quoted eyewitnesses as saying that a suspicious person was spotted at the scene prior to the incident and when he was called he escaped. Brig. Muhammad Al-Ghamdi, Director of Civil Defense in Jeddah led the firefighting teams. Col. Abdullah Al-Zahrani, Head of the Investigation Department in Jeddah Police said that thick smoke prevented the Civil Defense rescue teams from entering the flat so they used retractable ladders to rescue a family trapped on the second floor and another stranded at the rooftop. The case has been handed over to Al-Salama Police Station to ascertain whether it was arson or just an accident. Brig. Yusuf Al-Sayyid, Assistant Director of Jeddah Police for Criminal Security and Brig. Abdullah Sharaf, Head of the Criminal Investigation have started investigation into the case.
