Lugar bill's conditions would be the last straw on the back of Pakistan, according to Hafiz Hussain Ahmed, veteran leader of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI), who was here recently on an Umrah visit. He was speaking to members of the Pakistani community and the media. “At present, the most important thing for the Pakistani government is to legalize the NRO (National Reconciliation Ordinance). If the impeachment movement had been brought in the parliament, we would not be facing the present situation,” he said. The community members brought the leader's attention to the issue of the stranded Pakistanis living in Bangladesh since 1971. Ahmed said he had visited the Bangladeshi camps and witnessed the “deteriorating condition of the stranded Pakistanis”. He promised that he would approach government officials, secretary general of the Muslim World League, and the Saudi Ambassador to Pakistan, in order to expedite the process of the reactivation of the Rabita Trust. “The process of the settlement of the stranded Pakistanis in Bangladesh or Pakistan can be started once the Trust becomes active,” Hussain said, adding that a persistent strategy needs to be developed to solve this issue. JUI-KSA convener Moulana Qari Rafi Ullah, general secretary Hafiz Abdul Razzak Waso, deputy secretary general Tahir Bhaii, Moulana Shams Ul Haq, and Makkah-based social worker Hamid Nazir were also present in the meeting.
