Pakistan is considering extending its overseas development operations in the engineering and allied sectors by establishing a branch of its premier engineering and consultancy organization, the National Engineering Services Pakistan (NESPAK), in Libya. This follows Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani's recent visit to Libya and consultations between the two countries. Libyan ministers have approached the government to consider the utility of establishing NESPAK in Libya to facilitate cooperation in multiple technical and engineering sectors, said an official statement. A NESPAK representative visited Libya in August 2009 as part of a public-private construction consortium, receiving an encouraging response during the consultative meetings held with Libyan counterparts. A Libyan state-owned company has approached NESPAK for signing a memorandum of understanding relating to the provision of technical support in ongoing development projects in Libya. Officials believed that there are great prospects of increase of bilateral trade and business between Pakistan and Libya.
