The Philippine Embassy has clarified that it has not authorized any group or individuals to solicit money and material support for the benefits of victims of the two typhoons that ravaged the Philippines recently. Ambassador Antonio P. Villamor said the embassy relies only on voluntary contributions and donations, whether in cash or in kind. “Voluntary financial contribution and material assistance to victims of the typhoons are welcomed and accepted by the embassy and authorized Filipino community organizations,” Villamor said. “Our friends in this country knew what happened in the Philippines and the sufferings of our people due to the typhoons that spawned widespread flooding in the country; they have read the disaster widely in the newspapers and seen the devastation on television. If our friends will come forward voluntarily to extend their helping hand, we are very grateful,” the ambassador said. He expressed his thanks and appreciations to all the donors and supporters who voluntarily answered to the call of support from the Philippine government and the Filipino people.
