Haramain Train Project have said that the train's route has been finalized and that it will require works to all the overpasses on the Jeddah to Madina highway. According to the sources, the route will commence from Makkah's Third Ring Road in the Al-Russaifa district, follow the Makkah to Jeddah highway through Bahrah, move on to the district of Guwaizah east of the Jeddah to Madina highway, and continue from there to Abraq Al-Raghamah. “All the overpasses on Al-Haramain Road [Jeddah-Madina highway] will be adjusted for the train route down the central island of the road which will continue northwards to King Abdul Aziz International Airport,” the sources said. “Makkah Roads Administration will continue to receive legal documents for real estate to be expropriated, which is estimated at 500 properties,” they said. The contract for the second phase of the Al-Haramain Train works is expected to be signed soon. The second phase will involve railway works; rail line electricity, telecommunications and signals systems, the importation and operation of the transport and maintenance facilities and staff. The sources said that completion of the first phase of works is due in April 2012, and the second phase in May of the same year.
