All private and government schools would celebrate the Kingdom's National Day on Oct. 19, the Ministry of Education has announced. Kingdom celebrates National Day on Sept. 23 but this year all schools were closed on that day due to the long summer and Eid vacations. Prince Faisal Bin Abdullah, Minister of Education, has ordered all schools to implement the ministry's decision to belatedly celebrate the National Day. “We give a great importance to prepare the next generation on the basis of a solid education to strengthen the principles of nationalism by inculcating in them important achievements of the Kingdom,” said Prince Faisal. All schools, he said, are required to submit a report on the observance of this occasion. Rabha Attar from Science Island private school said the school has planned several programs to educate the students about important aspects of the unification of Saudi Arabia. Shadiya Afandi from the 99th Elementary School, said, “We will distribute Kingdom's flags to all students as well as ask them to write small stories about their country. Educational videos will also be shown to educate the children about the achievements of their country. Nawaf Abdul Aziz Public School will distribute CDs to students highlighting the Kingdom's achievements in order to strengthen their loyalty to their religion and homeland. “The CDs will have a slide show program with pictures and information about the history of Saudi Arabia and the great strides it has taken since its unification,” said Abdul Aziz.
