Does a person sin when he memorizes the Qur'an and later on he forgets it, being busy with life's affairs? A – The correct view is that there is no sin in that. Nevertheless, a Muslim should maintain what he memorized, and guard over it, so that he does not forget it. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Secure (your memorization of) the Qur'an, for it escapes more easily than a camel does from its fetter.” (Al-Bukhari and Muslim) The most important responsibility regarding the Qur'an is that one should contemplate its meanings and apply its precepts. The Qur'an is a proof for the person who applies it, a proof against the person who neglects it. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “The Qur'an is either a proof for you or a proof against you.” (Sahih Muslim) – Sheikh Abdul Aziz Bin Baz; Fatawa Islamiyah, vol. 7 pg. 84 Depending on Allah Q- Depending on Allah does not mean that you throw yourself in a swimming pool when you do not know how to swim, or endanger your life in a physical sport without training. What is the real sense of depending on Allah? Please explain. A – Depending on Allah means committing all of one's affairs to Him alone. It is one of the fundamentals of faith, according to the Words of Allah: “And put your trust in Allah if you are believers indeed.” (Qur'an, 5:23) It is also one of the strong spiritual means for accomplishing the objectives and serving one's interests. But the believer must also observe along with the dependence the other means, whether they are acts of worship, such as du'a, performing the prayer, giving charitable donations, or maintaining good relations with one's kin. One should also apply material means that Allah has made as causes for fulfilling needs, such as those mentioned by the inquirer in his question, and their like. One should follow the example of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him). He would apply other convenient means with perfect dependence upon Allah. Therefore, one who neglects other available means, and is satisfied with depending on Allah alone, would oppose the guidance of the Messenger (peace be upon him). In that case, his dependence would be in effect a form of incapacity, not legal dependence. – Permanent Committee for Islamic Research and Verdicts; Fatawa Islamiyah, vol. 1, pg. 24 __
