The Saudi Cancer Foundation has launched a Breast Cancer Awareness campaign in several public locations in the Eastern Province. The campaign was officially inaugurated by Sulaiman Bin Abdulrahman Al-Thunayan, Governer of Al-Khobar, on behalf of Prince Mohammed Bin Fahd, Emir of Eastern Province, at King Fahd University Hospital here. Dr. Mohammed Adil, Medical Director of the Saudi Cancer Foundation, told Saudi Gazette that October is the month for breast cancer awareness worldwide, and as part of that, “we have begun a campaign in the Eastern Province called “Pink Eastern” aimed at conducting various educational programs for early detection of breast cancer and at demonstrating the importance an early detection of the disease, as the survival rate is very high for patients who have the disease detected in its early stages”. The campaign will intensify efforts, with the collaboration of volunteers, to reach as many people as possible in the region to raise awareness about the importance of the early detection of breast cancer, especially among women over forty years, he said. According to Dr. Adil, the new mobile mammography unit obtained recently by the SCF has already started its official activities, and any woman, who is over the age of 40, or who has a family history of breast cancer, can use the services of the mobile unit to obtain a free mammography screening.
