Sudanese found dead at Briman Prison

JEDDAH – A 65-year-old Sudanese inmate at Briman General Prison was reported dead on Thursday after fighting with an 80-year-old Nigerian prisoner. Colonel Misfer Al-Juaid, spokesman of Jeddah Police, said preliminary investigations showed that the two inmates had argued and fought and were reconciled by fellow prisoners. A few hours later, the Sudanese prisoner was found dead in a pool of his own blood. Al-Juaid said that so far the mystery of the cause of the death of the Sudanese has not been solved, pointing out that the Nigerian is being considered a suspect. He said the Sudanese and Nigerian inmates were arrested together for practicing sorcery in a house at Al-Rawabi District in southern Jeddah. – Okaz/SG
Qat smuggling attempt foiled

SAMTA – Security patrols in Samta seized a car carrying 1,000 bundles of qat and stolen car number plates. On suspicion, the security patrols asked the driver of the suspected car on Samta-Jizan Road to stop the vehicle. Instead of pulling over, the driver tried to crash his car into the patrol vehicle before he was cornered and forced to stop some distance from the road. He left behind the car with the contraband and fled on foot. The car and the qat have been seized. – Okaz/SG
Border patrols arrest 3 Arabs
DAMMAM – Border Guard patrols at Al-Bat'ha Sector, south of the Eastern Province, Friday captured three Arab nationals who were attempting to illegally cross the borders. The three were spotted through the electronic surveillance system and are being investigated, said Border Guard spokesman Brigadier Muhammad Bin Sa'ad Al-Ghamdi. – SPA
2 pilgrims run over

MADINA – Two East Asian Umrah pilgrims have been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit at King Fahd Hospital here after being run over by a truck carrying sheep in Saiyed Al-Shohada District Thursday. The older man suffered a head injury and the other a fractured pelvis when they were hit by the truck driven by an Arab national.– Okaz/SG
Young man kills himself

KHAFJI – An 18-year-old youth committed suicide inside a police detention center in Khafji Friday, authorities said. He was found strangled in the bathroom with the toilet flush rope. The young man was detained on charges of hot-rodding and careless driving. The incident was attended by Col. Saud Turki, chief of the Khafji Traffic Department. It is not known as of now what led the young man to kill himself.
